Depending on the country, the information used to create Forest Insights comes from aerial or satellite images.
For New Zealand, our partner Scion has created plantation boundaries by applying deep learning models to aerial imagery captures. Indufor has taken these boundaries and further divided them according to their age. This dataset is refreshed annually to capture afforestation and harvest events.
Forest Insights data is currently available in four New Zealand regions: Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Waikato and Bay of Plenty with more regions coming soon. The map below highlights areas where our service is available or under development. Zoom in to view subnational data coverage.
